Forage Fish

Abundant forage is the foundation for a healthy ecosystem and sustainable bait. We're fighting for the little fish.

Atlantic herring, Alewives, menhaden and other small schooling fish are are the foundation for the Gulf of Maine ecosystem as they provide food for groundfish, tuna, and marine mammals. Many of these species are also important sources of bait for Maine's lobster fishery so ensuring that we have enough forage in our waters for everything to eat AND to catch for bait is the only way to ensure we can build a stable and vibrant ecosyem to support our coastal fishing communities.

Maine Coast Fishermen's Association

An industry-based nonprofit that identifies and fosters ways to restore the fisheries of the Gulf of Maine and sustain Maine's fishing communities for future generations.
