Community Connections
Help us share our love for local seafood!
Read below for some fun ideas on how to engage students and the community
Invite a celebrity chef to your school
Ask around to see if there is a restaurant in your area with a chef who is open to collaborating and working with seafood. Invite them into your kitchen for a guest chef day where they prepare a special seafood dish for lunch. Email Susan for help coordinating a guest chef and procuring fish for them to work with.

Get your regional culinary students involved
Does your region have a culinary program? Reach out to them to see if they would like to learn more about local seafood, host a training, or experiment with recipes. Email Susan for help coordinating or brainstorming.

Connect the cafeteria to the classroom
Our friends at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute have developed seafood-centric curriculum to connect the lunch room to the classroom. Check out the "Local Seafood in Maine Schools" module in their Learning Resource Hub by clicking below.
You can also find posters, recipes, sea-to-school guides, taste-test guides, and more curriculum information at GMRI's Sea-to-School Resource Hub, linked below.

Host a Community Night
Invite parents, students, and community members to your school for a "community night" and use it as an opportunity to celebrate local foods and learn more about different family's cultures and traditions. Email Susan for help coordinating.
Share your seafood experiences in a newsletter
Did you serve local fish to your students this month? Did you experiment with some new seafood recipes? How was it received in the lunch room? Share your local fish news with families!
