MCFA Welcomed into 1% for the Planet

We are pleased to share that we have been accepted by 1% for the Planet as an Environmental Partner! 1% for the Planet began as a way for companies to have a meaningful impact on issues important to the environment and keep each other accountable to that goal. By joining the initiative, member companies commit to donating 1% or more of their profits to environmental nonprofits. Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, their members have given hundreds of millions of dollars to environmental partners to date.

What does this mean for MCFA?

The team at 1% for the Planet reviewed our mission, our programs, and our impact and confirmed that we align with the values of businesses that care about our planet: its people, food systems, and ecology. Our programs are deeply connected to our human and natural environment.

We believe that fish is food, and that sustainable fisheries help our fishermen thrive and our communities eat well. We lead community-oriented conservation that engages fishermen as true partners and active participants in the research that affects their livelihoods.

Now, companies who have committed to donating 1% of their profits can select MCFA as a recipient. In Maine, these businesses include Maine Beer Company, Slack Tide Sea Salt, Cold Current Kelp, GoGo Refill, Big Tree Catering, Tandem Coffee Roasters, and many others.

Being honored as an Environmental Partner validates the value of our work and speaks to the depth of our impact on our community and the importance of our mission.
