Seafood and Fisheries Policy Coordinator


Location: Brunswick, ME

Status: Full time, salaried

Reports to: Executive Director

The Position: MCFA is seeking a Seafood and Fisheries Policy Coordinator, a newly formed position at the organization. This staff member will work on a diverse array of projects, which will include building a voice for Maine seafood within the local food system. The successful candidate will work with the MCFA team on federal, state, and regional policy initiatives, gear and technology research, and fishing business support. This position will provide an opportunity to work for a small, but impactful, nonprofit on a wide variety of issues facing Maine’s coastal communities.


  •     Represent MCFA and Maine’s fishermen within local food system meetings

  •     Organize meetings with seafood advocates in Maine to coordinate messaging, projects, and efforts

  •     Attend and participate in appropriate policy meetings at the regional and state level

  •     Manage routine communications with partner organizations on joint projects
  •     Communicate with member fishermen on the phone, in person, and in writing on research initiatives, projects, and organizational priorities

  •     Develop meeting materials and project reports
  •     Collaborate on projects and complete tasks as assigned by the Executive Director

Required Qualifications:

  •     The ability to work with a diverse group of people to achieve common goals

  •     Excellent organizational, communication, analytical, and writing skills

  •     The ability to work independently
  •     The ability to manage and implement multiple projects concurrently

  •     Dedication to building and maintaining relationships throughout Maine’s coastal communities
  •     Bachelor’s degree or work equivalent

Desired Qualifications:

  •   One to three years professional experience working in fisheries or related issue

  •   Experience with dynamic project management

This position will require some travel within Maine and the New England region. Due to work demands and project meetings, the ideal candidate will need to be flexible with non-standard work hours.

The Seafood and Fisheries Policy Coordinator is a full-time position based in Brunswick, Maine. MCFA offers a flexible work environment, schedule, and remote work opportunities. A part time version of this position could be developed for the right candidate.


$40,000 to $45,000 with a benefit package that includes paid time off, health insurance and HSA with MCFA contribution, and retirement match.
